Is it ok to request a white taxi driver (http://www.stuff.co.nz/4804901a11.html)? Apparently, a lot of people in Christchurch have been doing it to avoid those annoying African and Indian drivers who, like, don't speak English.
OK or not ok?

only ok if the reasoning behind it is that they dont want to have to repeat themselves a million times.
so yeah, theres nothing wrong with it.
See, up here, I think "white only" would exclude Maoris. Could you find similar justification for that?

I think it's alright. Personally I'm not very tolerant of maoris, for a number of reasons.
I imagine there are many other people who dislike maoris, africans, etc, and don't want to associate with them. That's entirely their choice.
Houston doesn't have a wide base of a Taxi Service. But I'd probably ask for a white driver if I didn't feel comfortable w/ whatever I got.

yes you can justify it, there is a language barrier in accents between me and you and say Hengari. il give an example.
we go up to the drive-thru at kfc,
Loosilly- "Place your order when your ready"
Me- "regular chips and 3 drumsticks please."
Loosilly- "I'm sorry what did you say?"
Me- "regular chips and 3 drumsticks."
Loosilly- "What?"
Me- "*sigh* regular chips and 3 drumsticks."
Loosilly- "I cant understand you."
Me- "REGULAR CHIPS AND 3 DRUMSTICKS PLEASE."
Loosilly- "Drive-thru."
some people, me included dont like having to repeat themselves 4 times.
Wow, maybe I'm alone here, but I think that, while it's fine to choose the driver you think is most likely to speak English when there's a taxi stand, if you ring up the taxi company, they shouldn't honour that kind of request. Because, next thing you know, black people won't even be able to get a job as a taxi driver and will end up on welfare in greater numbers.
On another note, I've tried to get an English-speaking driver a few times and have chosen some weird-ass Eastern European who not only didn't speak English, but smelled like he'd bathed in a swimming pool of cheap cologne.

I don't think you should be allowed to, at all. That ridiculous. You can maybe ask for someone who has a good command of the English language, but I don't think you should be allowed to actually specify the race of your driver.

Exactly. The Eastern European drivers are often as pale as me, but their English is no better than those Somalian refugees nobody wants in the country.

I must say I've only ever eaten at KFC voluntarily in NZ. Never eaten there in the US.

But its only about $25 for 10 pieces and 4 sides.
I know this because the Romanian chick that works at the local KFC just got outa my pool wearing nothing but arse floss.

It's always really busy... especially on thursdays.
Thursday also happens to be dole day.

We've noticed the same thing around here.
That and the supermarket. The cheaper supermarket brings in three huge pallets full of Waikato Draught, which is this utterly undrinkable beer, on Tuesday or so, and keeps the plastic wrap on throughout Wednesday. Come Thursday, they're gone by noon.
And you can't go to the cheap supermarket, either, unless you want to stand in lines that stretch down the aisles of the shop, full of people pushing trollies of Waikato Draught.
Thursday. Hm. Wonder what day that could be. And why I'm always in line that day.

As much as I hate / enjoy being racist, I really can't help myself with maoris.
They just BEG for it.
I know... because it would actually be mean if this wasn't true, and every Maori welfare family didn't flock to KFC and out to get their Waikato, and spend the benefit money by the end of the day. But that's exactly what happens.

They always complain that they're poor and don't get enough support bla fuckin' bla.
It's because they spend all their money on smokes, alcohol and fast food.
I think dole money should be put on a card, and that card couldn't be used to withdraw money, and couldn't be used on transactions with alcohol / smokes.
They blow all their money on shit, then wonder why they're poor...

I think that's the way it's done in the US--your foodstamps can't be used for name brand shit, KFC, McDonalds, beer, smokes, or weed. It's for FOOD. In fact, I think they choose some of the food for you, such as the cheese and milk. So if you're poor, you don't get the luxury of being a kewliez vegan.
Thing is, American welfare is inferior in other ways; here, if you get a part time job, you can still keep part of your dole money. In America, they just cut off the whole thing.
At least that's what the poor people in America are always complaining about. But at least they're not complaining about being poor while eating KFC.

I can't stand people who complain about being poor or kept down.
It's a lie, they go to the same schools that I do, have the same job opportunities I do, they're just not willing to put the effort in to get them. They fuck around in school, then wonder why they didn't pass.
Then they expect the people who did work their asses off to pay for them.
I agree that there's a huge demographic of people who do that. Mostly one colour.
I bitch a lot about being poor and unemployed, but I admit that a lot of it's my fault due to some really, really bad choices I have made in my life, which shall remain known only to us few. ;)
What I don't like is being fucked around because I'm foreign. I guess it's people's right, but it does hurt at times. And you must realise that it's easier to get a job if you have a job. I've applied for two really great jobs that I would have suited perfectly, only to have people who I actually know, who already have jobs, be hired instead of me. Also my fault, but still kind of hard to stomach in this economy.
Maybe I'm just as bad as Them...

Most people just sit around and wallow.
Thing is, it does get to the point where you realise you've fucked up your life so very badly that you'll never get any job of any kind. I wonder if I could serve humanity better sitting in the top floor of my parents' house trying to write another novel. It would be less boring than job applications and I could stop stealing the Maoris' god-given welfare. :)

That is how it's done in the US. They'll take it away after your income exceeds a certain level.
