I've decided to take a little break from writing because mine is going nowhere. Agents aren't interested. Publishers aren't interested. I've never had a short story in a decent magazine. Hell, my instructors didn't even like my short stories.
I don't want to quit forever, but I've been kind of enjoying my non-writers life--coming home and watching TV. Not going through packs of ink and paper every month or wasting money on postage.
So, why do you write?
If you knew nobody was reading, would you quit?
How about breaks? Ever had one?
Did you come back to writing?
What made you come back?
I used to think I'd always be a writer and I'd come back to it no matter what, but now I'm not so sure. I never imagined that I'd finish Autumn Snap and nobody would want it. I wasn't expecting the bestsellers list or a big publisher, but I wasn't expecting agents in Texas and shit to reject me. I wasn't expecting to be sitting around wondering if I should just give up and self-publish so I can maybe get 10 or 20 readers. Not for this book.
